Spicy Guacamole

20140505-084834.jpgHappy Cinco de Mayo! Cinco de Mayo (the 5th of May) celebrates the 1862 Mexican victory over the French in the Battle of Puebla. I decided I will join the celebration by making a fresh batch of spicy guacamole! I just love the fresh, creamy taste of Haas avocados mixed with fresh squeezed lime juice, pungent garlic, juicy tomatoes, crunchy red onion and topped with some chili powder and some cayenne powder to give it a little heat!

Avocados contain vitamins A, B, C, E, K, copper, iron and potassium. They contain fiber, protein and beneficial phytochemicals such as lutein, which may help protect against various diseases and illnesses. They are great for your skin, eye health, control your blood pressure, and have anti-inflammatory properties. Shall I go on? You don’t need any more reasons to include this fruit (yes, fruit because it contains a pit) into your daily diet. In fact, if I was ever stranded on an island and could only have one food, avocado would be that food.


  • 5 Haas avocados
  • 5 cloves of garlic, chopped
  • 10 grape tomatoes, chopped (or 2 small sweet tomatoes, pictured)
  • 1/2 red onion, chopped
  • Juice of 2 fresh limes
  • 1/2 tsp of garlic powder
  • Himalayan sea salt to taste
  • Chili powder to taste
  • Cayenne powder to taste


Mash the avocados and lime juice in a bowl. Mix in the garlic, onion, tomatoes, and garlic powder. Sprinkle the sea salt to taste and mix. Serve topped with chili powder sprinkled on top, garnished with your favorite organic tortilla chips and enjoy!
